MUSIC

Grand Piano on Vltava – October 1
Vltava is my favourite piece of the symphonic cycle Má vlast (My Homeland) by Bedřich Smetana. To hear it being played directly on the river is a dream come true! Who will be behind the piano? Michal Šupák, the best pianist of 2014!

The Top 25 Things to Do in October

Mezi Ploty – October 4-5
People should realize that mental illness is the same as other illnesses – you must go to see a doctor, you must treat it and one needs to be supported. Not only by a close family or friends, but also by the general public, which should finally get rid of prejudices. Tearing down myths and various taboos is the purpose of this music festival at the Psychiatric Clinic in Bohnice.

Pilsner Fest – October 4
Going West was a dream for many Czechs, and you should follow the tradition. You don’t even have to cross the borders! Stop in Plzeň and have a mug of the best Czech beer while listening to Czech big names such as Tata Bojs or J.A.R. You can also take a tour around the brewery.

Beethoven’s Ninth – October 5
To celebrate 20 years on the scene, PKF – Prague Philharmonia has organized a series of a few special concerts. My tip among them is the Beethoven’s Ninth conducted by one of the most famous Czech conductors Jiří Bělohlávek, who also stands behind the origins of the orchestra.

Lindsey Stirling – October 20
Yes, sure, we have the competitive pop divas coming to Prague in October (Lady Gaga and Kylie Minogue). But if you are in the process of deciding how to spend your hardly earned money, buy a ticket to see Lindsey Stirling! Check the video to see what I am talking about.

Concert for the republic – October 28
Every year, the Prague Symphony Orchestra plays a concert on a very important day of our republic (see Wikipediaif you are lost here). If you don’t feel like spending 800 CZK (or less) to go to a classic concert, attend an open rehearsal on October 27 at 10:00.

FILM

Nordic Film Autumn Festival – October 1-5
Most films from the upper area of Europe will be provided with English subtitles here, so you can fully enjoy their stories. You can also send your answer and win two full passes with us here!

Life Science Film Festival – October 13-17
You might have already noticed I have a weakness for science, despite the fact that after the completion of my bachelor study program at the Faculty of Science, I can’t tell a flower from a tree. But science is fun, interesting, and important. Introduction to it via film can be really overwhelmingly great!

Das FilmFest – October 15-19
Some of you might actually speak German as your first language. Or you belong to those – me included – who are sincerely trying to learn it. Practice at this showcase of the best movies of the German scene.

Bollywood Film Festival – October 22-26
Colorful Bollywood in Prague again! This year, the festival is divided into three sections: Children of Bollywood, Lollywood in Bollywood, and Documents. A few of them were chosen by the film critic Karan Bali.

PARTIES

Suit Up Party – October 10
Finally you’ll have a chance to take a sexy dress or a bowtie and head to this legen – wait for it! – dary party! Prague’s 10th edition is electroswing performed by multicultural DJs, the Czech Electro Swing Bohemia included!

Bloody Sexy Halloweekend – October 31 – November 2
The first bloody kick off of this year’s Halloween will take place, as always, at SaSaZu. The promoters consider this event to be the biggest, sexiest and naughtiest Halloween party. You can look forward to a competition for VIP tickets on Expats.cz soon.

FOOD & DRINK

Feast of Apples – October 4
The apple. The basic word taught during English lessons (trust me, I know what I am talking about) and the basic fruit of our cuisine. The first Saturday of October will be dedicated to this symbol of fertility and everything it has to offer. Would you fancy cider, apple liquor, cookies, or raw desserts? The event is happening at Sychrov Castle, an hour away from Prague.

Street Food Festival – October 12
After great success in May, Street Food Festival is now moving to Stromovka. Pros and amateurs will prepare food, the street will be your festive table. 10% of the income will go to charity purposes.

Ghetto Food Festival – October 26
Join the insectivorous species group and come to the very first “Bug Feast” in Prague. Delicacies from exotic countries will include insect specialties, exotic fruit or steaks from bizarre kinds of meat. You can also look forward a unique culinary show with live scorpions.

SPORT

RunTour – October 4
10k races are very popular in Prague, and Prague’s edition of this country-wide series is not different. Situated around the Ladronka Park, you can also choose to run a shorter race or let your kids compete in the 1000 or 500 meters race.

Czech Republic Championship in Pole Art – October 18
Who would have thought something so seductive as pole dancing could take place in the City Library! But that’s exactly the place where this year’s championship in this sexy (and artistic!) sport will be held.

THEATRE

4+4 Days in Motion – October 10-18
This is an international festival of contemporary art, mainly theatre and dance. Five venues around Prague will host performances, exhibitions and debates.

Mime Fest – October 17-22
A good quality pantomime performance requires no words, so you can go to any of the Czech shows at this festival. Some of the performers will be from other countries as well. It is, after all, an international pantomime festival.

Roxy & NoD 22nd Anniversary – October 20-26
Except gigs being served every day as a birthday cake at Roxy, NoD’s program will be much richer this year as well. Bara from NoD recommends 3 theatre performances: Ken Mai – Dhyana / Meditationon October 20th and Do-Theatre: Gofmaniana. Dust of dreams on the 23rd and 24th.

Buenos Aires, Final Destination! – October 25
Have you ever wondered what people who have emmigrated to Argentina are like? Somehow, this non-verbal drama will “tell” you their stories

ART

Designblok – October 7-12
What moves the world of design and fashion, not only in this country but also abroad? The large area of 10.000 square meters will perhaps provide you with a “little” bit of useful insight into it.

Signal Festival – October 16-18
I hope the organizers will take care of security, because you don’t want to burn your eyes out with lasers. And those will be there! The entry is free, but we are now in a process of setting up a merchandise competition with the promoters. Check out our Comps section from time to time.

FotoExpo – October 18
October could be called the month of photography, because this will be the second event celebrating this visual art type. Lasting one day, the program will host top Czech photographers who are active in top Czech media. They will present their works and debate with visitors.
