Petřín Funicular Now Re-Opened

After seven months of repairs, the Prague landmark is again carrying passengers up Petřín Hill from today

Prague’s famed Petřín Funicular, which carries passengers from the streets of Malá Strana up to the top of Petřín Hill, closed last September for lengthy repairs to its tracks.

From today, April 8, the funicular is back in operation carrying passengers up Petřín Hill, reports iDnes.cz.

“The bridge construction was tilted by 4 centimeters towards Smíchov,” on-site manager Pavel Kejha told iDnes. “It was not anything major, but a structural engineer recommended its repair.”

The funicular will run daily in ten minute intervals from 9:00 until 23:30.

The scope of the repairs included work on the tracks, renovation of the Nebozízek station halfway up the hill, and the cable cars themselves, which received new flooring and wiring.

Prague’s Petřín Funicular has been in operation since 1891. From 1985 in has been a part of the city’s integrated public transport system.
