The current moment in global politics often feels like a chapter torn straight from George Orwell's 1984. To explore how his prescient warnings resonate today, Expats.cz is hosting a special screening of the powerful new documentary, Orwell: 2 + 2 = 5, at Edison Filmhub.
On Monday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. the entire Expats.cz editorial team will be on hand, not just to discuss the film, but to hear directly from you about what you want to read, what concerns you have, and how we can better serve the English-speaking community in Czechia.
The Film: Orwell: 2 + 2 = 5
This groundbreaking feature-length documentary by acclaimed director Raoul Peck (I Am Not Your Negro) examines totalitarian regimes through the work of visionary writer George Orwell.
The film focuses on Orwell's final months to explore the roots of the disturbing concepts he revealed in his dystopian masterpiece,1984. Peck masterfully connects Orwell’s famous equation ("Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past") with current socio-political truths.
Following the film, Editor-in-Chief Elizabeth Zahradnicek Haas will take part in a discussion with Edison Filmhub’s resident film expert Ryan Keating about the documentary’s themes as part of the Movie Barf Monday film talks series.
Meet the Team & Tell Us What’s On Your Mind
Following the film and talk, the entire Expats.cz editorial team will be present to meet you, hear your stories, and get your honest feedback. What are the biggest issues you face? What kinds of articles, interviews, or topics would you like us to cover more often?
