A power failure at the out-of-service Pankrác station on Prague’s metro has halted a central portion of the city’s (red) metro line, disrupting transit between Pražské Povstání and Kačerov stations, according to the Prague Public Transit Company. This means that Budějovická station is also impacted.
Metro operations were suspended in the affected section after a fault occurred in the supply rail at Pankrác, which is currently closed for long-term reconstruction. The outage began shortly before 2 p.m., with full service expected to resume around 6 p.m., transit spokeswoman Aneta Řehková has confirmed.
Alternate routes available
To compensate for the service disruption, replacement bus line XC has been introduced between Pražské Povstání and Kačerov. Passengers traveling through the area are advised to use the XC line or tram route 19 as an alternative, particularly between Pražské Povstání and the closed Pankrác station.
Service remains operational on the rest of Line C, running northbound from Pražské Povstání to Letňany and southbound from Kačerov to Háje.
Passengers are encouraged to monitor official channels for live updates and further instructions regarding alternative routes.
Inputting your journey on the DPP website (available in English) will allow you to check whether your commute or planned route will be disrupted. You may also plan your route and see all changes via the PID Lítačka phone app.
This marks the second technical issue at Pankrác station in recent days. On Monday, a malfunction in the station's signaling system caused irregular intervals and delays throughout the C line.
According to the Expats.cz editor, a passenger at the time, the trains on the affected line ran at irregular and extended intervals. They would always stop at a station for a few minutes, then move on to the next one, where they would stop again. The delay affected the entire C line in both directions.
Pankrác station, a key stop on Prague’s oldest metro line, has been closed for renovation since Jan. 6 and is expected to remain under construction for approximately one year. Trains currently pass through the station without stopping.
