Prague is preparing for a brush with Hollywood royalty as Leonardo DiCaprio is set to arrive in the Czech capital by the end of this week.
The Oscar-winning actor is joining a star-studded cast for director Martin Scorsese’s new feature, What Happens at Night, which is currently filming on location.
The 83-year-old Scorsese has been on the ground in Prague since the first half of February, according to the Prague Reporter, overseeing a production that includes Jennifer Lawrence, Mads Mikkelsen, and Patricia Clarkson.
Local observers and media outlets, including Blesk.cz, have already spotted Mikkelsen enjoying a burger in the Czech capital.
DiCaprio arrives in the Czech Republic following a busy awards season schedule in Western Europe.
On Sunday, he attended the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) ceremony in London, where he was nominated for his lead role in the film One Battle after Another.
The actor had previously confirmed his involvement in the Prague shoot during the Santa Barbara International Film Festival earlier this month.
The production, developed for the Apple TV+ platform, is based on Peter Cameron’s novel of the same name. It follows an American couple navigating a surreal, snow-covered European metropolis while attempting to adopt a child.
Czech Republic is a star filming location
The influx of high-profile talent underscores the Czech Republic's growing status as a global filming location.
According to the Czech Audiovisual Fund (SFA), demand for film incentives has skyrocketed. In 2025, filmmakers applied for incentives totaling CZK 9.5 billion, a massive 140 percent increase compared to the previous year.
The Czech Audiovisual Fund (SFA) will only disclose the specific financial incentives granted to the production of What Happens at Night after a period of time, citing trade secrets, SFA spokeswoman Pavlína Vítková told the Czech News Agency.
According to Vítková, details regarding the subsidy package for the Scorsese film are currently confidential and can only be released by the fund retrospectively.
The Scorsese project follows other high-profile international productions utilizing Czech locations and expertise. Last year, the American series Age of Innocence received a record provisional incentive of approximately CZK 360 million. That production continues to film across Prague and Liberec.
