President weighs in

Pavel: Czechia has long condemned Iranian regime

President Petr Pavel said the Czech Republic has long condemned Iran’s human rights violations, support for terrorism, and backing of Russian aggression in Ukraine. He stressed that the immediate priority is the safety of Czech citizens and diplomats amid Israeli-US strikes on Iran. As the conflict in the Middle East enters its second day, Iran has launched strikes on neighboring countries and its Supreme Leader has been confirmed killed.

Czechs in Middle East

Czechs in Dubai describe explosions, panic

Czech nationals in Dubai reported explosions and rockets overhead on Saturday, with blasts heard near the marina and air defenses apparently intercepting projectiles. Many flights, especially to Europe, were canceled, leaving tourists uncertain about returning home. Residents have begun stockpiling food, withdrawing cash and filling fuel tanks amid fears of further escalation in the United Arab Emirates.

Travel warnings

No Czech repatriation flights planned

The Czech Republic will not send repatriation flights for citizens in the Middle East, Foreign Minister Petr Macinka said Saturday. About 2,500 Czechs are registered in the UAE, mostly in Dubai, with three remaining in Iran. Macinka warned against travel to the region amid Israeli-US strikes on Iran and Iranian retaliatory attacks. Airspace closures have stranded thousands; citizens are advised to stay in contact with airlines or the embassy.

Small plane crash

Pilot killed in North Bohemia plane crash

A pilot died when a small sport plane crashed near Panenský Týnec, close to Louny, on Saturday afternoon, the Ústí nad Labem fire corps reported. The wreckage caused damage exceeding CZK 1.5 million. Firefighters extinguished a minor fire on the wing. The Czech Aviation Authority is investigating. Separately, a single-seat helicopter crash near Kaplice injured a 73-year-old Austrian pilot, who was hospitalized.

Prague brawl

Knife drawn in Prague city center brawl

Police in Prague responded to another mass brawl in the city center on Friday evening, during which one participant allegedly brandished a knife and threatened others. Officers later tracked part of the group to Štvanice, detaining one suspect on charges of disorderly conduct and making dangerous threats. Several minors involved were handed over to their parents. The investigation is ongoing.
