In an effort to alleviate daily anxiety and stress, many people are turning to online yoga as a reprieve. But with the influx of streaming options, it has become difficult to find a standout experience that satisfies not only the need to stretch your body but to expand your mind and leave home to boot.

A new series of yoga classes, set in the historic galleries of the Lobkowicz Castles, is hoping to attract people who love both yoga and grand Bohemian castle visits.

YogArt is available to stream from today via The House of Lobkowicz social media outlets and YouTube. The sessions are led by yoga instructors Lucie Königová and Alexandra Gálová who present a different space filled with extraordinary works of art each episode, introducing visitors to hidden treasures of the Lobkowicz Collections while helping them unwind with mindful breathing and gentle yoga.

Classes are available in both Czech and English and are designed for all ages and levels.

“Although we have already hosted yoga in our gallery spaces, the coronavirus pandemic required us to present it in a different and dynamic way. The public was feeling anxious about the spread of the virus and many were disappointed that gyms and yoga studios could no longer teach group classes,” says Alexandra Lobkowicz, President of the Lobkowicz Collections.

“At the same time, we had to close the doors of our museums. Our immediate response was how might we collaborate to fuse two different art forms, one that offers visual pleasure and art history, the other peace of mind and physical well-being.”

Each class introduces a new space, as well as the history and artwork within it before each yoga session begins. The first seven classes of the series take place at Nelahozeves Castle while future episodes will feature the Lobkowicz Palace Museum in Prague Castle, as well as other Lobkowicz properties.

The English classes are led by Lucie Königová, who wants to teach people the joy of life through yoga, who says: “I want to instill a desire to explore everything that is happening around us and to do so with interest, playfulness, and openness—all while remaining calm and focusing our attention on the present moment.”

The Lobkowicz Collections, the oldest and largest privately-owned art collection in the Czech Republic comprises approximately 1,500 paintings, including works by Bruegel the Elder and Canaletto and manuscripts of Mozart and Beethoven compositions.
