Day two of Colours was set to be as interesting and progressive as the opening day, with performances from Czech Republic’s Please The Trees, Michal Pavlíček trio and Bonus all set in the historical mining area of Vítkovice and the Hlubina Mines. Day two’s content didn’t fail to disappoint with jaw dropping performances from all on the well planned out line-up.

Bobby McFerrin took to the Česká Spořitelna stage giving a real vocal treat, with 3 other band members running through a set of improvised tracks much to the delight of the 20,000 strong audience. McFerrin was later joined on stage by Czech artist Dan Bárta (who had performed on the same stage earlier on in the day) for a special track, giving the McFerrin stage show a unique Czech flavour!

Walking around the impressive festival site I got real feel for the Colours of Ostrava eclectic vibe. Everywhere you walk you’re bombarded with different genres of music expertly performed by musicians who display an obvious love for their craft, making Colours the music-lovers festival. Food and drink from around the world is also in abundance. There’s no shortage of delicious refreshments to keep your energy levels up!

Anthony and The Johnsons gave an emotional and moving performance with support from the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra (CZ). Antony Hegarty’s haunting vocals with beautiful orchestral backing made for a fantastic performance from the award-winning group and the crowd swayed to the British experiential sounds.

Afro-beat rhythms filled the early evening air with sounds from the ArcelorMittal stage, a slight timing change meant that Lindigo played ahead of his expected time. The extremely talented Reunion Islander played a truly electric set with his full band giving support.

The performance of the second day came in the form of the multi-layered, visual carnival from the Flaming Lips. The stage fully eliminated with stunning projects and lasers beaming from the packed stage. The Oklahoma band played from a stage full of people dancing and revelling in the band’s space rock, psychedelic show. The perfect end to an eclectic day of music from around the world.

Day three sees performances from Czech pop-princes: Charlie Straight, jazzy acoustic soul from Zaz, Lebanese trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf and Czech electronica from Midi Lidi. I have had minimal sleep but am more than ready for another busy day of varied music from around the world thanks to Colours!
