The Bardolino trio will

launch its debut CD

of original music on

Friday, 1 October, at 19:00

, with a concert at the Cathedral of St.Michal in Prague 1 (V Jirchářích 12).

Bardolino cellist Margit Klepáčová says, “We started our careers as classical musicians.  But in recent years, we have felt the pull of a new musical adventure – building on our classical training to create music that incorporates a larger sphere of folk songs, ethnic melodies and harmonies, world music, American country and bluegrass.  Inspired by the works of great Czech composers such as Janáček and Martinů, our compositions present classical themes in a new, folk-colored light.”

Bardolino is a non-traditional trio of violin, cello and percussion, which also utilizes voice as a fourth instrument.  Since its founding in 2007, Bardolino has performed regularly in small venues, developing a loyal following among fans of innovative world music in the Czech Republic and abroad.

Klepáčová adds, “We believe that great music defies simplistic and confining categorization.  There is so much beauty and pathos in Czech and Moravian folk music, in gypsy music, in folk music from Latin and North America.  Melding them with classical traditions creates transcendent music that captures the soul of the world.”

The other members of Bardolino are Pavel Fischer, violin, and Camilo Caller, percussion.  All lend their voices to the compositions.  The 1 October concert is open to the public and free of charge, and refreshments will be served after the performance.  Additional information about Bardolino and the new CD, “Bardolino“, is available on the group´s website, www.bardolinomusic.com
