What is the opportunity?

The Exams & Assessments Team Lead is responsible for the smooth and accurate delivery of all assessment and award-related processes across FutureLearn’s university partnerships. They will lead the operational delivery for current partnership programmes, ensuring academic integrity, compliance with partner regulations, and alignment with FutureLearn’s internal frameworks.
This role combines leadership, quality assurance, and process ownership. The Team Lead supports, trains, and coordinates Exams & Assessments Officers, maintains close collaboration with Academic Team and Student Support teams, and acts as the key point of contact for university partners regarding assessment, marking, moderation, external examination, misconduct, data, and outcomes.

What success looks like:

  • Supervise and support Exams & Assessments Officers in the delivery of all assessment cycles.

  • Oversee workload distribution, training, and development to ensure consistent performance and resilience across the team.

  • Monitor delivery timelines and quality standards, escalating risks or delays proactively.

  • Foster cross-departmental collaboration, particularly with Student Support and Academics.

  • Lead the planning and delivery of assessment activities, including submissions, marking, moderation, reassessment, and Board preparation.
    Ensure all processes are fully compliant with partner university regulations, Senate Regulations, and internal quality frameworks.

  • Oversee data accuracy across systems (e.g. Canvas, SITS, WISEflow) and manage results collation, verification, and upload for Boards and Panels.

  • Being responsible for and ensuring the integrity of  the End-to-End process for exams, grades and awards

  • Oversee coordination of external examiner engagement, Board documentation, and post-Board actions (e.g. awards, reassessments, referrals).

  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline assessment workflows and reduce error risk.

  • Act as the operational point of contact for Exams and Assessments with Brunel University (and other partners as required).

  • Support the Head of Operations in presenting data and reports to Boards, Committees, and partnership meetings.

  • Support the Exams and Assessments in liaising with academic teams to resolve assessment or progression queries and ensure consistency in grading and outcomes.

  • Ensure assessment practices are aligned with partner university regulations and Office for Students (OfS) expectations.

  • Support the implementation and monitoring of quality assurance actions arising from Boards or Audits.

  •  Contribute to documentation updates, including policies, SOPs, and checklists for Exams & Assessments operations.

  • Promote best practices for academic integrity and secure handling of student data.

What you will bring to the table:

  • Experience in Exams & Assessments or Academic Administration within Higher Education.

  • Strong understanding of UK university assessment frameworks, progression, and award processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing deadlines and complex operational cycles.

  • Proven leadership or mentoring experience.

  • Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy.

  • Confident communicator able to engage with academic and professional staff.

  • Strong working knowledge of Excel, data management tools.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within an Online Programme Management (OPM) environment.

  • Process improvement or QA experience (e.g. SOP creation, internal audits).
