Where to go ice skating in Prague for the 2018-19 holiday season

Temporary skating rinks are opening across the city starting next week; here’s where to get in on the winter fun

One of the clear signs of the holiday season in Prague – alongside the Czech capital’s top-rated Christmas markets – is the appearance of outdoor ice skating rinks across the city, where children and adults can get in on some winter fun right in the center of the Czech capital.

Some temporary skating rinks are already open in Prague – including one at the Černý Most shopping center, but most will begin to debut in the first weeks of December.

In the center of the Czech capital, two rinks will be returning to familiar locations by the Na Františku hospital (from November 26) and Estates Theatre on Ovocný trh (from December 5).

Across the Vltava river, one of Prague’s most popular (and in the city center, largest) skating rinks will return to Letná park from December 1.

Access to skating rinks across the city typically costs around 50 – 100 crowns, and if you don’t have your own skates, they can usually be rented for a similar price plus a refundable deposit at most rinks.

Bonus: at the Letná and Ovocný trh locations (along with Vítězné náměstí in Prague 6), admission to the ice skating rinks is free of charge.

Popular Prague 8 venue Kasárna Karlín also hosted an ice skating rink last year, but has yet to confirm a 2018-9 edition.
