A new screening room, bar, and gallery has opened in a historic underground space on Prague’s Petrske náměsti.

Screenshot Film House is “a hybrid space for Prague film connoisseurs and tastemakers, offering the atmosphere of a clean and cozy artistic space with professional drink mixing, film programming, and high-quality sound and video production,” say the founders of this new entertainment venue in the heart of Prague.

Before and after viewings, guests can visit Screenshot’s cocktail bar which can accommodate up to 120 guests or check out exhibitions from local and international artists.

An inaugural exhibit features the black-and-white digital artwork of California-based Iranian artist Forouzan Safari which explores the inner life of an Iranian woman.

Open to the public from Friday, the art-house cinema will kick off its opening season with an English-friendly roster of screenings that cover selections from the best 100 years of Czechoslovak cinema.

“Screenshot hopes to familiarize [its patrons] with aspects of Czech culture and cinema but also introduce Prague to art from beyond its borders,” says founder Payam Razi, adding that film screenings will always be English-friendly “now and in the future.”

“Our initial step towards this path begins with a screening program of 50 masterpieces of Czech cinema with English subtitles,” he says. “This is an extraordinary program comprising films from 1930s onwards, each with a unique story telling depicting different aspects of Czech culture.”

Razi, a Prague-based film writer, director, and music editor for Radio Free Europe, brings his 13-year background in both film making and music production to the project.

The venue will open its doors to the public September 13. The cinema house will host an afterparty for this year’s Zažít město jinak na Petrském náměsti. A series of performances is scheduled for September including a piano concert by Julie Anna Zappalà (FR).

Another cinema-cafe-gallery, Edison Film Hub opened in May in Prague near the Jindřišská Tower.
