In addition to opening in Prague, the Irish fast fashion retailer Primark will also have a branch in Brno. The company announced it will open at the Olympia shopping center in 2022.

Primark previously announced that it would enter the Czech market in 2020 with an outlet on Prague’s Wenceslas Square. “Since the announcement of the opening of the first Czech Primark store in Prague later this year, we have been looking for a second location that will be part of our expansion in the region,” Jose Luis Martinez de Larramendi, Primark’s retail director for the US and Central and Eastern Europe, said in a press release.

“Brno, as the second largest city in the Czech Republic, offers a great opportunity to reach other customers in the Czech Republic,” he added.

The Brno outlet will have an area of 3,600 square meters on one floor of the Olympia shopping mall. “We were pleased that Primark chose Olympia Brno as the second place in the Czech Republic. The addition of an internationally renowned retailer to the shopping center portfolio will significantly contribute to the current brands and services offered at Olympia Brno,” mall manager Jan Pazour said.

“The shopping center has undergone significant modernization in recent months and the planned opening of Primark is another way of meeting the wishes and needs of our customers,” he added.

Primark opened its first store in the CEE region on June 13, 2019, in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The company also announced the planned opening of stores in Poland and Slovakia.

The nearest Primark store to Brno is currently in Vienna, while the closest to Prague is in Dresden. Customers from both Brno and Prague have taken organized international shopping trips on buses to shop at the German and Austrian branches.

The Prague will be the flagship for Central and Eastern Europe. It is scheduled to open in May in the new Flow Building that is being completed on Wenceslas Square.

Primark sells everything from baby and kids clothes to women and men’s apparel, homewares, accessories, beauty products, and confectionery. The chain is popular across Europe mainly because of low clothing prices.

In 2016, Primark opened a distribution center in Bor in the Plzeň region, which first led to rumors that the brand could be opening a retail location in the Czech Republic. The center served outlets in Western Europe, though.

Primark has its headquarters in Dublin, Ireland, and is a subsidiary of food processing and retail company Associated British Foods. In Ireland, the company is named Penneys, but that name is not used internationally, as it is owned by US-based retailer J. C. Penney. Primark operates over 370 stores across 12 countries.
