A recent comparison of prices across international chains and legendary First Republic establishments in the Czech capital reveals a surprising trend: some of the city's most historic spots are competitive, if not cheaper, than major coffee giants.

Visiting different types of coffee houses citywide, Metro.cz found that while chains promise speed and a unified, seasonal menu (e.g. heavily sweetened American-style specialties), many traditional and independent cafés are proving that your morning cappuccino is more affordably sourced at a century-old Art Nouveau café than a shiny new international chain.

With Prague Coffee Festival returning to Výstaviště this weekend, there’s no better time to seek out the city's most affordable cup.
