Theatrical parades, fire shows, acrobatics, and juggling: Prague street theater festival Behind the Door (Za dveřmi) is returning to the Czech capital for its 11th annual outing next week.

From Monday, July 15th to Thursday, July 18th, both the city center and Prague Exhibition Grounds in Holešovice will host dozens of acts, including a program for children, for a total of 4 days filled with more than 30 performances from ensembles from 7 European countries.

“We will bring to Prague a number of great artists and foreign productions who win awards all over the world, many of which will be making their Czech premiere,” says Michaela Holbíková one of the festival’s organizers.

A collective of Danish musicians kicks off the festival in Republic Square, followed by a parade led by the V.O.S.A Theater, which will pass through Můstek, Na Příkopě Street, and Old Town Square.

In the evening, the festival moves to the Prague Holešovice Exhibition Grounds, with a performance by Wolf Lady cabaret and Finnish performers Sisus Sirkus, who will scale ropes and trapezes from great heights. The day ends with a fire show from Blackout Paradox inspired by shamanism and mysticism.

Czech artists will be represented by the juggling duo Le Cabaret Nomad, The Cabinet, and Bratři v tricku who will perform a summertime ski show. The Holektiv acrobats will recall the era of the first airplanes in their street performance The Aviator. New faces of Czech alternative theater, graduates of HAMU G.N.A.T., will entertain with their performance piece Smetáček a syn.

For families, Continuo will present puppet fairy tale ZUNO, inspired by several magical stories from various parts of the world. This will be followed by a children’s workshop for puppets.

This year a special Old Town Expedition will return participants to the time of samizdat, or underground publishing when encrypted messages were puzzled out due to censorship. The interactive experience is presented in cooperation with the Cruel Mole initiative and requires advance booking.
