Prague communist-era shopping institution Kotva, a five-floor department store built in 1970 in the brutalist architectural style, has had a busy year reminding people that it’s just as relevant as ever.

In 2016, its parking garage hosted the September Mercedes Benz Prague Fashion Week; Czech Design Week was held here in November.

This year also saw several high-profile openings within the building’s iconic intertwined hexagons including a Prim watch flagship, BIBLOO concept store, and Zetko, a cafe equipped with Xbox consoles.

Just in case all of that is not enough to get you in the door, perhaps a new exhibit showcasing more than sixty photographs of the holiday season at Kotva from the 70s and 80s will.

In addition to the photos, twenty strategically placed mannequins sporting winterwear straight out of a Wham Christmas video will add to the throwback atmosphere.

Each Sunday in December from 14:00-18:00 customers can try on similar styles of the Soviet-era and pose for a photo for the retro Christmas photo competition (props are on loan from Barrandov Studio).

The installation was put together by the Dancing House Gallery which recently closed its wildly successful Retro 70s and 80s exhibit.
