Police have arrested 19 people at the Prague headquarters of the General Health Insurance Company (VZP) in a raid linked to public contracts, authorities said. The case is being overseen by the Prague High Public Prosecutor’s Office.
“At this stage of the criminal proceedings, we cannot provide more details,” said public prosecutor Miloš Klátik.
VZP, which covers more than six million clients and manages a budget of 320 billion crowns this year, confirmed it is considered a damaged party and is bound by confidentiality. Detectives are reportedly focused on contracts for IT services, according to local news site Odkryto.cz.
The Office for the Protection of Competition (UOHS) assisted police during the raid, spokesman Martin Švanda said.
The arrests come after police proposed charges in September against former Civic Democrat MP Marek Šnajdr, businessman Pavel Dovhomilja, and former VZP deputy director Tomáš Knížek. The investigation is connected to the Dosimeter case, a suspected corruption scandal involving public contracts for Prague’s public transport company.
VZP’s budget this year includes a planned deficit of CZK 7.5 billion, up from CZK 5 billion last year.
