In a country where dogs can ride the metro, cats lounge on windowsills in country cottages, and pigeons are the unofficial guardians of Prague's oldest buildings, pets make life in Czechia feel more like home. So as pet companions, we want to make sure they have all the support, love, and care they deserve.
Here are five useful services that can help expat pet owners handle the practical side of life with furry or feathery friends in Czechia, from vet visits and accident protection to grooming, pet sitting, and support for injured wildlife.
Help for injured pigeons and wild birds
Found an injured or sick pigeon? Pigeon Protection Institute provides advice and guidance on how to care for the bird at home, how to find a veterinarian, and where to access verified specialized help in any region, if available. When needed, the institute also connects people with volunteers in their area.
“We specialize in domestic pigeons, wood pigeons, and collared doves, but we can also advise on where to seek help for other wild bird species,” says Pigeon Protection Institute.
The organization operates throughout Czechia (with limited coverage in Slovakia), and communicates in Czech, English, Slovak, Russian, and Ukrainian. It also provides guidance for people who decide to keep a pigeon as a domestic pet after recovery. As a non-profit organization, it is grateful for financial and material support.
Pet liability coverage for renters and homeowners
Even the most innocent-looking pets can cause unexpected damage. At Allianz, liability insurance covers these "oops" moments caused by your pet to third parties, including other people, their property, or common areas. This is particularly valuable for expats renting apartments in Czechia, as many landlords and lease agreements require this type of coverage.
Pet liability coverage is included as part of the household and liability insurance policy, so there is no need to take out a separate policy, according to Allianz. The coverage applies to damages caused by pets in general.
The company offers services in English, and all communication and contract management can be handled remotely by email, including e-contracts and claims reports. Allianz operates across Czechia, with a client center in Praha 8 open for appointments every Wednesday.
A veterinary clinic with "soul"
The word “Anima” means soul, and that is exactly what HANIMA Veterinary Clinic wants to embody. Founded in 2025, this Prague 4 clinic provides a family-oriented pet care facility that devotes time and attention to each patient, supports animal shelters, and spearheads innovation in the field of veterinary dentistry.
What started as a small waiting room and a single examination room has expanded into two consultation rooms, an intervention room, a fully equipped operating theater, a laboratory, and a storage facility. Today, the team consists of four veterinary doctors, a behavioral consultant, and four veterinary nurses.
“Every pet owner who walks through our doors and entrusts us with their beloved companion becomes part of the HANIMA family,” says DVM Juraj Hanzel, MRCVS. “We are a clinic with a soul.” Visit their website to make an appointment.
Dog sitting that feels closer to home
Going away without your dog can feel easier when you know they will be cared for in a home-like setting. PetSitting5 provides dog sitting services just 15 minutes south of Prague’s city center, in an environment that feels more natural and familiar than traditional kennels.
"We offer personalized care in a family setting, welcoming only a small number of dogs at a time," says Jana Stankova, PetSitting5. A dedicated dog lover with over 20 years of experience, Stankova speaks English and French.
Here, dogs enjoy daily walks in nature, a spacious garden for running and playing, and a peaceful indoor space for relaxation and naps. "Each pup receives individual attention, playtime, and cuddles, just like they would at home," she emphasizes. Visit their website for more information, follow them on Instagram @petsitting5, or contact the owner to book directly at +420 602 374 517.
Grooming, treats, and physiotherapy
Dogtown takes pooch pampering to a whole new level, combining several pet care needs in one place. Tucked into the leafy, vibrant neighborhood of Letná, Dogtown offers grooming services, physiotherapy, and an on-site bakery where doggos can truly be treated.
“Our services combine expert knowledge, genuine passion, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that puts both pets and their owners at ease the moment they walk through the door,” says Dogtown.
At the heart of the Dogtown experience is the Grooming & Spa, a professional salon offering breed-specific grooming, baths and blow-dries, trims, and even luxurious spa treatments. Dogtown Bakery offers freshly baked, dog-safe treats, while the Dog Physiotherapy clinic provides tailored rehabilitation and therapeutic programs for dogs recovering from surgery, managing a chronic condition, or showing signs of stiffness as they age.
