These days, many digital services in Czechia can save you time, money, and unnecessary trips to government offices (unless you’re into that, of course).

To take just one example, if you need a criminal record check, you can get it for free via the Portál občana (Citizen Portal), compared with paying CZK 100 at a Czech POINT. So in many cases, going digital is a no-brainer. And I personally wish I had discovered the Citizen Portal a lot earlier.

So, as managing our everyday lives online increasingly becomes the norm, which tools and platforms do you actually need, or even must have? And which ones will actually make your life easier here in Czechia?

We’ll start with the different forms of digital ID, then look at two especially useful tools they give you access to: the Citizen Portal and Datovka. And the good news is that as a foreigner, providing you have legal residency, you have access to pretty much everything that’s available.
