If you drive on Czechia’s major highways, expect to pay more to get around the country in 2026. The government has just announced that the price of an annual highway vignette will rise by CZK 130, to CZK 2,570, starting January 2026.
Even greener, biomethane vehicles and plug-in hybrids aren’t spared, with drivers of these cars also needing to dish out more next year.
As part of the changes, short-term vignettes will also cost more. The monthly stamp for combustion-engine (standard diesel and unleaded) cars will increase by CZK 20, the 10-day vignette by CZK 10, and the one-day pass by CZK 20, the Transport Ministry has confirmed.
Enviro-friendly cars still see huge benefit
Users of alternative-fuel vehicles will continue to save money from reduced rates despite paying more compared to 2024 rates. Cars running on compressed or liquefied natural gas and biomethane will see their annual vignette rise by CZK 60 to CZK 1,280, which is less than half the price of standard petrol or diesel vehicles.
Plug-in hybrids will pay just CZK 640 yearly, up CZK 30 from this year—about one quarter of the full rate. Fully electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles will remain exempt. Motorists with disability permits (ZTP or ZTP/P passes) also need not pay anything.
The double-edged sword of growth
Czechia’s highway network is expanding. The entire system is expected to grow by 66.7 kilometers this year and by another 264.3 kilometers between 2026 and 2029, reaching completion in 2033 at a total length of 1,980 kilometers.
Despite this good news, consumers need to pay the price. “The price of a highway vignette is based on the rise in inflation and…the increase in the length of the highway network,” the ministry said.
The Transport Ministry expects the changes to generate an additional CZK 1 billion in 2026, bringing total revenue from highway vignettes to around CZK 9 billion.
Where and how can I get a highway pass?
You can buy all types of passes on the official state website edalnice.cz, which handily is also available in English. You may store it electronically. You can renew your Czech highway vignette via eDalnice by inputting your same license-plate number and start date set for 2026.
The passes are also available to buy at selected Česká pošta and EuroOil branches. A map of sales points is here. Self-service kiosks are also dotted around the country.
