About 13.2 percent of children in the Czech Republic aged 12-15 have registered for Covid-19 vaccination over the past ten days since their registration started, according to the latest data released by the Czech Health Ministry.
In all, about 60,400 children in this age group have registered and about 11,500 (2.5 %) have received their first vaccine dose. Among them, 83 have completed their vaccination. In total, this age group comprises over 450,000 children.
The health and education ministries have said that fully vaccinated children will not have to undergo Covid-19 testing at the start of the school year.
Under the current timescale of at least 34 days between vaccination doses, and two weeks from the second dose before vaccination is considered completed, children will need to receive the first dose by July 14 to avoid testing at the start of the school year.
However, Health Minister Adam Vojtech has said the minimum time between vaccine doses may be decreased to 21 days.
Under current plans for the start of the school year, children will be tested three times, on September 1, 6, and 9.
At the end of June, the government approved a measure that states those who refuse the test will have to wear a face mask or respirator at all times while in school.
Along with those who are fully vaccinated, testing will not be mandatory for children who recovered from the infection within the past six months.
Among all age groups, at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine has been given to almost half of the Czech population. By Saturday, 35.6 percent of Czech residents had completed their vaccination.
