The Prague Transport Company (DPP) has announced that it will test a continuous mobile signal in the C-line metro tunnel in the coming weeks. The stronger signal will allow for uninterrupted calls from Muzeum to Vyšehrad.

If the testing phase is successful the signal will be used in all of the tunnels with complete coverage possible from next year.

Martin Gillar, CEO of DPP told the Czech press that a contract has been approved with a consortium of operators to strengthen the signal from tunnels in April.

Passengers can currently take advantage of free wi-fi on the platform of six metro stations: Florence on lines C and B, Náměstí Republiky, Smíchovské nádraží, Hlavní nádraží, and Pražského povstání.

DPP says it will launch a wi-fi connection at the Muzeum metro station platform this autumn.

All sixty-one metro stations are covered by a mobile signal, some of which, for example, Depo Hostivař, rely on the use of outdoor transmitters.

In the newer metro stations such as Bořislavka and Motol, operators have begun to use GSM, 3G, and LTE, including in the tunnels.

In other stations, coverage is provided only through GSM technology suitable for phone calls.
