Political demonstrations

Second mass rally planned in support of President

The activist group Milion chvilek (A Million Moments for Democracy) is planning a large-scale demonstration at Prague’s Letná Plain to support President Petr Pavel. The move follows recent political friction between the Prague Castle and the cabinet. Organizers stated they intend to hold the rally if they collect one million signatures of support. Over 230,000 people signed the petition within the first day of the announcement. Read the full story here.

Metro station closure

Flora metro station closes for ten months

Prague’s Flora metro station on Line A closed today for an extensive ten-month renovation. The project focuses on replacing the station's aging escalators and repairing the ceiling hydro-isolation to prevent water leaks. While trains will continue to pass through the station, they will not stop. Passengers are advised to use nearby stations or tram services; the station is expected to reopen to the public in late 2025.

Weekly weather outlook

Temperatures to rise above freezing this week

The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute reports that the freezing weather will begin to subside starting Wednesday. While the early part of the week remains cold and mostly cloudy, daytime temperatures are expected to climb above zero degrees Celsius across most of the country. Expect persistent overcast skies and occasional light precipitation as the cold snap breaks, providing relief for commuters and residents following the recent sub-zero stretch.

Tax deadline reminder

Final day to file property tax returns

Today is the deadline for residents to submit their real estate tax returns for the 2026 period. The obligation applies to those who acquired property in 2025 or made significant structural changes, such as building extensions or changes to land use. Financial authorities remind taxpayers that late filings may result in penalties. Those with active data boxes (datové schránky) are legally required to submit their returns electronically.

Cinematic achievements

Czech co-production wins award at Sundance

The film Divorce in Times of War, a co-production involving the Czech Audiovisual Fund, has won the Directing Award at the 42nd Sundance Film Festival. Directed by Lithuanian filmmaker Andrius Blaževičius and co-produced by the Czech company Bionaut, the film explores complex human relationships against the backdrop of conflict. Following its international success, the movie is scheduled for theatrical release in the Czech Republic during the second half of 2026.
