1️⃣ Czech fund halts Agrofert subsidies over conflict

The State Agricultural Intervention Fund has suspended subsidy applications for Agrofert companies after Andrej Babiš was appointed prime minister, citing a conflict of interest. The freeze will remain until Babiš legally resolves the issue. He says he will place the holding in a trust, though critics are skeptical. The halt could affect about 100 million crowns across subsidy programs.

2️⃣ Greenpeace hangs banner at Environment Ministry

Greenpeace activists climbed the Czech Environment Ministry building Tuesday, hanging a banner to protest Motorists party leader Petr Macinka overseeing the ministry. Police intervened and later reported the activists for offenses. Greenpeace says Motorists policies conflict with environmental protection. Macinka dismissed the protest after his inauguration, saying the climate crisis had “ended.” Other environmental groups and students also oppose Motorists leadership.

3️⃣ Boy held captive released from hospital

A 12-year-old boy who was held captive for several days in a cabin in the Zlín region has been released from hospital, Czech Television reported Monday. Police have not yet charged a man arrested in connection with the case. The boy, found Sunday with help from witnesses, will need physical and psychological recovery. His school is preparing crisis support for students and parents.

4️⃣ Hygienists warn of virus spread during holidays

Czech health officials are warning that Christmas parties and family visits could accelerate the spread of colds, flu and Covid. Hygienists urge people to stay home at the first signs of illness, seek testing and consult doctors if symptoms worsen. Vaccination against flu and Covid is still recommended, especially for seniors, pregnant women and those with chronic conditions or weakened immunity.

5️⃣ Prague museum marks 130 years of Škoda auto

The National Technical Museum in Prague opened an exhibition marking 130 years since the founding of Škoda Auto and honoring co-founder Václav Klement. Running through mid-March, it traces the firm’s history from bicycles to automobiles and Klement’s support for Czech technical heritage. Displays include historic motorcycles, early vehicles, personal furnishings and artworks documenting the Laurin & Klement legacy.
