It’s a large “pill” activated by a magnet. Turn it on, and it will vibrate to a set number of beats per minute.

Swallow it, and feel the vibrations from the inside as the pill works its way through your system.

The Audiopill is a new project from Czech artist Jan Poope (real name: Jan Strmiska), who is currently raising funds for the concept on Indiegogo.

According to the Indiegogo description, the Audiopill is based on an Italian medical device called Sirio, which was designed to heal injuries with low-frequency ultrasound waves. But it also produced the side effect of whistling sounds that only the patient could hear.

Or, as the campaign so delicately puts it:

“Swallow the thing and then for ten hours BANG the feeling inside your stomach BANG insanity BANG joy BANG horror BANG elation BANG extasy BANG BANG pain BANG BANG BANG BANG…”

FEATURED EMPLOYERS

The Audiopill, of course, is not for the faint of heart. Even the crowdfunding description notes that the user may experience regret as the vibrating device makes its way through their gastrointestinal system over the course of a day. Once swallowed, the pill cannot be turned off.

“You are at a 10-hour party of one and only hypnotic rhythm, and there’s nowhere to escape.”

According to the Indiegogo campaign, the pill seen in the video is a fully-functional prototype. Additional funds are needed for large-scale production, and “anyone in the world will be able to make their dreams about exciting musical self-destruction come true.”

The Audiopill’s creator is no stranger to controversial art.

You can currently catch Poope’s Prolapse of Love project – an exhibition of art involving prolapsed anuses – at Prague’s Atelier Stalingrad. The Audiopill is a part of the exhibition.

If you want to contribute to Poope’s project to make the Audiopill a reality, you can do so via Indiegogo and become one of the first subjects to swallow the pill.

The campaign makes it clear that any such actions are undertaken at the user’s own risk.

“This is an experimental art device. During development of the device, many doctors and four polymer experts who were consulted on encasement materials, warned the author “to never ever swallow anything like this”.”

It is also recommended to check your feces within 48 hours to make sure the Audiopill has completed its journey.

So far, Poope has raised €148 of his €150,000 goal.
