Workplace satisfaction can feel low these days, and it’s not hard to see why. A job can often feel like just a paycheck rather than an avenue to advance your career, leaving people unsure of where the next step should lead. Especially for international employees building their lives and careers in Czechia, it’s important to find a role where you get paid, invest in yourself, and advance your professional goals.

Many companies have begun building programs to elevate and promote their employees from within. These programs often help participants explore more than one area of the company, widening their skill set and helping colleagues connect across departments, experience levels, and projects.

At Commerzbank, those paths are part of a wider story. The German-based bank opened in Prague in 1992, and the arrival of Commerzbank DTC Prague, opened in 2006 as a Delivery Organization, has helped build new career pathways. With its internal programs, employees can develop within an international company, rather than move on every time they are ready for something new.

Through the experiences of current employees, Commerzbank’s Prague success stories show how mentorship, trust, flexibility, and cross-regional collaboration can turn a first role into a longer-term career.

“Being part of a thriving international environment enriched my perspective.”

Many international employees are transient by nature, so working someplace where more global experience is both valued and rewarded can be the difference between your professional journey lasting a year or a decade.

Finance specialist Candittah Muthoka can attest to this. Her trainee experience, she explains, became more than an entry point at Commerzbank. It gave her access to global networking, approachable leadership, and projects that helped her apply her skills in a meaningful way.

“Collaborating with branches across regions opened my eyes to the power of teamwork,” she explains. “Every project became a chance to not only develop my skills but also learn from colleagues who are not just experts in their fields but also generous mentors, always ready to share their knowledge.”

Candittah knows that joining an international workplace is more than just a chance to expand your worldview. It lets you build connections, develop confidence, and discover opportunities that can shape the next stage of your career.

“Being part of a thriving international environment enriched my perspective,” she adds. "It allowed me to view finance through a truly global lens.”

“It’s almost magical, working with colleagues who are ambitious but still human.”

Anyone who’s spent long enough on LinkedIn would know that “culture is key.” It’s a bit trite, but the data supports it: Studies have shown that friendly and supportive teams play a vital role in workplace satisfaction.

Alisa Berilschild, a credit officer at the company, is happy to report that this kind of culture doesn’t just exist at Commerzbank, it also helps her think beyond her role.

Alisa’s background in M&A, FP&A, and audit taught her how to think structurally, take responsibility, and how to stay calm when things get complex. After joining Commerzbank, she found a workplace where collaboration was part of daily life.

“It felt magnificent to step into an environment where people don’t just stick to their job descriptions,” she explains. “They share ideas, step in when something needs extra effort, and genuinely care about what the team is building together. There is something almost magical about being surrounded by colleagues who are ambitious but still human.”

Employers need team players, creative problem solvers, and people who can communicate well, but being part of an environment that values experimentation and collaboration is also essential. Alisa feels that Commerzbank has provided this space and more.

“It’s the best place to grow both professionally and personally,” she emphasizes. “You can strengthen your expertise while also developing leadership skills and confidence.”

“Skilled senior colleagues are always willing to help.”

Visibility can separate workplaces that really help you grow from the ones that just give you a LinkedIn Learning course and a pat on the back. Without feedback, trust, and space to contribute, progress does not always feel meaningful.

“I was onboarded as a backend developer but was given the chance to explore my interests in DevOps engineering and cloud infrastructure,” says Vít Šebela, a software engineer at Commerzbank DTC Prague. “This flexibility not only allowed me to contribute meaningfully but also fueled my growth in exciting areas.”

Vít had the support needed to find a path that truly spoke to him at Commerzbank. He was an integral part of shipping a new system to production, where he felt his knowledge and skills were valued by upper management. Vít also joined architectural discussions and project steering, sharpening both his technical skills and strategic thinking.

His experience shows how career growth can happen when people are trusted to explore new areas, take responsibility, and learn from the teams around them. As he puts it: “My voice was heard, and I was empowered to make impactful decisions… Thanks to skilled senior colleagues who are always willing to help.”

“I fell in love with both the job and the incredible people here.”

People who hop around between jobs are usually rewarded with promotions and raises. But if you’re looking for a career track that doesn’t involve updating your CV every year, Commerzbank provides internal opportunities to climb the ladder, or scale it sideways.

“I started my journey in Commerzbank as an economics student,” Marcela Šeblová, a privileged access administrator in IT operations, explains. Her four-year journey with the company helped her discover a passion for cyber protection and grow into a role as a PAM/CyberArk Engineer Operations.

She returned to Commerzbank three times after graduating from university, and “fell in love with both the job and the incredible people here.”

For Marcela, those colleagues became the key to working effectively and enjoying the process every day. She describes a workplace where each challenge became a chance to grow and each day brought an opportunity to learn something new from her team.

Success looks different to everyone, and nobody’s journey will take the same path. For many expats living and working in Czechia, finding a flexible, friendly, and safe place to grow is just as important as what success looks like and how you pursue it. If you think you can find that at Commerzbank, check its careers page and see what opportunities they have for you.
