New stricter rules for foreigners’ integration course in Czechia in 2026

A digital shift means that not taking the course risks financial penalties and, even worse, could jeopardize your residence permit.

For years, Czechia’s mandatory Adaptation and Integration Course (AIC) was loosely enforced, with non-completion resulting in little more than a warning. That era has ended.

As of January 2026, the Ministry of the Interior has launched the Foreigners Information System, linking residency extensions to real-time checks of AIC completion. Foreigners who do not finish the course may now be flagged.

The AIC is a one-time, four-hour session designed to help foreigners integrate into Czech society.

“The course plays an important role in helping foreign residents understand their legal rights, obligations, and everyday life in Czechia, which significantly reduces the risk of misunderstandings and administrative problems,” says Veronika Bayerová, coordinator of the AIC project at the Integration Center Prague.
