When people think about U.S. citizenship abroad, they usually think about taxes. But for American families living in Czechia, and for adults who were themselves born outside the United States to an American parent, some of the most consequential moments have nothing to do with financial obligations.

The recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on birthright citizenship highlights how important citizenship remains to many American families, including those whose children are born outside the United States.
