🇨🇿 Czech Cinema Spotlight

Bohdan Karásek’s Everything As It Should Be offers a tender Czech variation on Richard Linklater’s Before Trilogy, following a pregnant woman who reconnects with her former husband during an emotionally revealing walk through the streets of Liberec.

The Prague Reporter calls it "a uniquely Czech perspective on love, loss, and relationships that continue to define us long after they have ended," highlighting the film’s thoughtful performances and quiet emotional depth. After premiering at the Karlovy Vary film fest, Everything As It Should Be is now screening in Prague cinemas, and with English subtitles at Kino Světozor, Kino Aero, Kino Lucerna, and Bio Oko.

🎞️ The Throwback

A newly restored version of Věra Chytilová’s Tainted Horseplay premiered at this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, bringing renewed attention to one of the director’s boldest films. The 1988 classic begins as a raucous sex comedy before taking an unexpectedly dark turn after an HIV diagnosis upends the lives of three carefree friends.

The Prague Reporter calls the film "one of the sharpest moral dramas of 1980s Czechoslovakia," praising how Chytilová transforms broad farce into a powerful reflection on responsibility, fear, and late communist society. Now entering Prague cinemas, Tainted Horseplay screens with English subtitles at Kino Atlas on July 29.
