You have decided to pursue a bachelor’s, master’s or Ph.D. in Prague. But you don’t speak Czech and are unsure of your options. The University of New York in Prague (UNYP) – one of the oldest private universities in the Czech capital – can provide guidance and help narrow your search.

Not only can you choose from degree programs in English, but the university, situated in the city’s expat-friendly Vinohrady district, also helps international students navigate every aspect of their move to Prague. This includes important steps like guiding students through the visa application process, finding affordable housing as well as hosting workshops on Czech customs, language basics and cultural norms.

“UNYP offers an international environment with students from over 60 countries, drawn to both the quality of education and the opportunity to experience life in Prague,” says Danai Baouraki, Admissions Advisor at UNYP.

“Our dual degree programs are one of UNYP’s most appealing factors. Students earn both an American degree—accredited by the U.S.—and a European degree, which will make them more competitive in the global job market once they graduate.”

Wide program offer, small class sizes and diverse student body

Whether you are looking to enroll in a full-degree program or want to study abroad in Prague for a semester, UNYP allows you to consider both options. Its wide-ranging program offer, small class sizes and commitment to enriching student life in the heart of Europe has attracted applicants from around the world for more than 25 years.

UNYP’s semester programs are designed to give students a taste of international education while earning transferable credits. The university has partnerships with more than 80 universities worldwide in addition to the European Union’s Erasmus+ student exchange program.

UNYP also offers internship programs, allowing you to get real-world experience while studying, as well as a free two-week summer acceleration program, which prepares incoming UNYP students to hit the ground running at the start of the fall semester.

“Studying abroad is such an incredible adventure, but can sometimes feel overwhelming. I think the activities from orientation week made a big difference. They allowed me to connect, build meaningful relationships, and form a friend group that has been a significant part of my experience,” says Violeta Dolera, a UNYP student from Ecuador.

My advice to anyone considering studying abroad is to seize the opportunity and embrace the fear. Take the leap, because it will open endless opportunities and experiences for you to see the world around you, and the journey will ultimately shape you in ways you never imagined.”

Dolera says she has been particularly impressed by the university’s international environment, which in addition to a culturally diverse student body also includes experienced faculty hailing from 30 countries.

“Opportunities to engage with different cultures and diverse backgrounds have always been something that interested me,” says Dolera. “Additionally, UNYP’s small class sizes made it feel like I could make the most of my studies and time at university.”

Year-round enrollment

In an effort to meet the individual needs of prospective students, UNYP offers year-round enrollment, allowing you to begin your studies at the start of any semester. Popular fields include Business Administration, Communications & Media, Psychology and International Relations.

“If you join mid-year, you won’t miss out on lectures or course material. Instead, you’ll begin with the current courses in the semester and complete your program with the same academic rigor as everyone else,” says Baouraki from the UNYP admissions team.

“Academic advisors work closely with mid-year enrollees to ensure a smooth transition and help them select courses that align with their academic goals and schedules with the possibility to transfer credits.”

First step: Get to know UNYP at an Open Day

The university frequently holds in-person and virtual Open Days, where you can tour the campus, explore student life, learn about scholarship, housing and internship options and get all your questions answered.

Explore the university’s programs and reach out to the admissions team to schedule an online consultation with an academic advisor who can help match your career goals to a suitable field of study.

Online application process

You can submit an online application, including required documents such as academic transcripts, a personal statement, proof of English proficiency (if applicable) and letters of recommendation.

Once your application is reviewed, you will be invited to a 30-minute Zoom interview with the dean of your program. After a thorough review, you will be notified of the decision. If admitted, UNYP provides guidance on obtaining the necessary student visa. You’ll receive support regarding housing and orientation.
