Czech labor inspectors are cracking down on job ads that could discriminate against candidates, warning that phrases such as “native speaker only” may violate anti-discrimination rules.

The move comes as Czechia prepares to align its laws with new EU pay transparency rules, which will require companies to disclose clearer salary information and promote greater equality in the workplace.

In 2023, the State Labor Inspection Office detected 155 violations and issued 125 fines totaling CZK 294,000. While these cases represent a small fraction of overall inspections, they signal that discriminatory wording in job ads is under increasing scrutiny.

Here’s a closer look at what’s changing and how to spot potentially discriminatory job ads.
