The Little Gym® – the world´s leading motor skill development program for children aged 4 months to 12 years is finally coming to the Czech Republic. The first Czech affiliate of this international Franchise will open March 30st 2010 at Prague 5 – Smíchov, Drtinova 8.

For over 30 years, parents have relied on The Little Gym® to help their kids build the skills and confidence that will enhance every aspect of their lives. Children are encouraged to try their best in fun, safe, and exciting surroundings, not to be the best.

“Movement is a part of life, just as play is a part of childhood. Kids need to play and exercise. When exercise is fun, children develop different skills while building confidence and enjoying themselves at the same time. As a mother, I was amazed and inspired by The Little Gym®  philosophy when I signed up my son as a member in Amsterdam several years ago, and I was determined to bring the concept to the Czech Republic.” says the owner of the first Czech affiliate, MUDr. Jana Mašátová.

The concept sprang in the 1970s from the mind and heart of founder Robin Wes –  pedagogue, expert at child motor development, musician and former gymnast.  He had a unique idea: to give children the chance to build their motor skills, as well as their social, emotional and intellectual skills – in a fun, magical and non-competitive environment. Having been a successful kinesiologist for many years in South Africa, he moved to the US and opened The Little Gym® in 1976 in Bellevue, Washington.

In The Little Gym® of Prague – like in all other branches around the world – the professionally developed, gymnastics based, non-competitive curriculum builds motor skills in a fun and nurturing environment, while fostering enhanced emotional, intellectual and social skills. Based around weekly themed classes, youngsters thrive in the colorful facility, where friendly instructors reward children for their individual effort.

“I have worked at The Little Gym® since 2003 and hundreds of children have come through our doors every week. I have seen how we made a real difference in their lives. I am very pleased to be able to help introduce this amazing concept in the Czech Republic,” says Dutchman Carlos Buchanan, who will join The Little Gym®  Prague team as Gym Director.

The Little Gym®  is a bright, colorful and cheery place. The age-specific curriculum is taught in Czech and English and delivered in weekly lesson plans to build skills progressively. In a non-threatening and nurturing environment, children progress at their own pace. Under the supervision of our trained instructors, they learn to tackle challenges, overcome fears, and express themselves confidently. Children are encouraged to try their best, not to be the best. This philosophy has served The Little Gym®  and its members well, and it now sets an international standard for high-quality children´s development programs.
