The Czech Republic is among the world's most frequently intoxicated nations

The Global Drug Survey reports on patterns of substance abuse worldwide

Who buys the most drugs from the darknet? Who feels guiltiest after a night out? And which country’s citizens consume the most pot? All of these questions and more were part of the eighth annual Global Drug Survey (GDS), which compiled data from 123,814 people living in 30 countries to analyze patterns of drug and alcohol use worldwide.

The survey also reveals which nations get intoxicated most frequently, with Britain claiming the top honor for the illustrious title of the world’s most frequently drunk nation.

The Czech Republic, however, handily made the top 10.

Placing ninth among the nations with the greatest tendency for excess, Czechs participants in the survey reported getting drunk 37 times per year, well above the global average of 33 yearly tipples.

English-speaking countries led the way in regular intoxication. Brits reported overdoing it 51 times in a 12-month period, almost once a week, followed by the US (50.3) and Canada (47.9).

According to the survey, Chile, Portugal, and Germany are the least drunk nations.

The mean age of the respondents in the survey was 29 years old.

GDS is an independent research company based in London that produces reports for global media, public health, and corporate organizations; it also produces an app, Drinksmeter, for monitoring alcohol intake.

The Global Drugs Survey is one of the largest polls on substance use in the world. Its aim is to “help people and communities have honest conversation about drugs.”
