A U.S. Republican senator’s decision last week to introduce a bill that could force Americans to choose between U.S. citizenship and any other nationality has sent shockwaves through the American community in Czechia.

Senator Bernie Moreno’s proposed Exclusive Citizenship Act of 2025 would require current dual citizens to renounce one of their nationalities within a year, while those who acquire foreign citizenship after the law takes effect would automatically lose their U.S. status.

For the roughly 11,000 Americans living in Czechia, this would mean being forced to choose between retaining their U.S. citizenship and keeping their Czech nationality, potentially forcing them to give up legal rights, property, work, healthcare, and travel privileges in one country.

If you’re a dual U.S.–European citizen living in Czechia, or simply hoping to become one down the line, we’d like to hear how you feel the new bill could impact your life and future.
