Prague residents looking to cool off ahead of this weekend's intense heat wave have a major new destination.

The Beach Eden complex has officially opened to the public in the Vršovice district. Spearheaded by the Prague-based football club Slavia, the rapid one-month transformation of a previously neglected local swimming pool has brought the largest sandy beach in the Czech capital to the heart of the city.

The ambitious project saw Slavia invest ten million crowns to revitalize the dilapidated venue just in time for the peak summer season. To create the massive urban beach, crews transported over 1,800 tons of sand to the site. Alongside the sand areas, the complex features a heated 50-meter swimming pool, beach volleyball courts, and a mini-golf course.

From dilapidated complex to 'premier' summer spot

According to club officials, the drastic intervention was badly needed. Visitor numbers at the old site had plummeted by 37 percent over the past two decades, averaging just 48,500 visitors per year, while online reviews languished at a poor 2.8 out of 5 stars.

"In just one month, we have transformed a dilapidated complex into a modern project with a bright future," Slavia boss Jaroslav Tvrdík stated on the club’s website.

Tvrdík added that the goal for this season is to surpass 70,000 visitors and firmly re-establish the area as one of Prague's premier summer spots.

Beach Eden is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission prices have seen a slight increase of CZK 20 compared to last year, with individual adult entry set at CZK 290. A family ticket for two adults and one child costs CZK 560, while entry for children under 15 is priced at CZK 190. Tickets can be purchased online via the complex's website.

Beyond swimming and sports, the venue has significantly upgraded its food and beverage options, introducing six new gastronomic establishments, including Bistro u Pepiho, Madden Bar, and a dedicated ice cream stand.

Slavia has confirmed that reconstruction and development will continue even after the gates open, with plans to gradually introduce a specialized children’s zone and further recreational attractions throughout the summer.

The area at the Slavia swimming stadium has a history dating back to 1979.
