The 2017 New Year’s Day Prague fireworks spectacular is set for January 1 at 18:00; this year the explosive ode to the Czech capital will be set off from Letná park Metronome – a departure from last year’s Vítkov Hill launch site.

The fireworks will be accompanied by music which, according to the official page for the City of Prague, can best be heard from the sound system at the far edge of Čechův Bridge, an area that is expected to have the greatest concentration of viewers.

Musical accompaniment will also be broadcast on Regina DAB Praha and Kiss 98.

Fun facts surrounding this year’s pyrotechnic presentation: The entire fireworks display will take 10 minutes, 47 seconds and will include 4,795 fireworks and 236 different effects.

The theme, “dynamic” Prague, will purportedly capture a day in Prague from morning to midnight via sparkly depictions of the changing of the guard at Prague Castle or sunset over Petřín to name just a couple.

Suggested spots for watching (arrive at least 30 minutes in advance to beat the crowds):

  • Prague bridges (Čechův, Mánesův, Štefanikův, Charles, Legií)
  • Dvořák waterfront
  • Pařížská Street
  • Petřín Hill
  • Letná
  • Vítkov Hill

A laser projection show on the slope beneath the Metronome will countdown the fireworks an hour in advance.
