If you've been waiting for a reason to visit Brno this November, designers have a very good one. Brno Bold Festival 2026 takes place on Nov. 9–10 and is billed as the biggest conference for graphic designers in Czechia. After four one-day editions, the event now stretches over two days and adds a business program for designers and studio owners.

Default is boring.

Organized by Bloomfield Brand Studio, the festival is built around a simple idea: "Default is boring." Organizers describe it as a meeting point between raw, cutting-edge experimentation and top-tier professional execution. The program is in English, so international residents are as welcome as Czech creatives.

Day 1, Nov. 9: Boldhalle

The first day takes place at Boldhalle, Bloomfield's own creative space in Brno, which houses a gallery, a café and a coworking area. The centerpiece is the poster exhibition NEWSCHØØL of PØ5TER, created in cooperation with Polish Graphic Design. It showcases the newest wave of Polish club posters and independent graphics, from neo-rave to lo-fi xerox and digital grunge. It is curated by Kuki Iwański and Rene Wawrzkiewicz.

Talks include:

  • Ivo Gabrowitsch, founder of Berlin type foundry Fontwerk and a former leader of brands at FontShop and Monotype.
  • Pavel Fuksa, Czech graphic designer, illustrator and creative director.
  • Filip Blažek, typographer, educator, and author who has helped shape the Czech typography scene – co-author of Identita Project.
  • Martyna Węndzicka-Obuchowicz and Kuki Iwański, who will explain how designers get nominated to the prestigious Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI), a network of around 500 designers from nearly 50 countries.

Hands-on workshops, sold separately, are led by Prague-based poster artist Peter Bankov (known for making type and images from shoelaces, sponges and glue guns) and Pavel Fuksa. The day also includes digital installations, live coding, networking and an afterparty.

Day 2, Nov. 10: Co.labs

The second day moves to Co.labs and splits into two parallel stages.

The Design Stage (branding, typography and creative execution) features:

The Business Stage (pricing, studio growth and project workflows) is aimed at freelancers and studio owners. Speakers include:

  • Nikola Foktová, Creative Director at Leo Burnett Prague & MSL Czech Republic, on leading a large creative team without burning out.
  • Sales leader Patrick Werdehausen of nilo.
  • Communication strategist Dany Rotkovský of TRIAD Advertising.
  • Project management specialist Míra Vlach.

More speakers and workshop details are still to be announced.

Why it's worth the trip

Even if you don't design for a living, the festival is a good fit for anyone working in branding, marketing or communications, or running a creative business. Brno itself adds to the appeal: the organizers pitch it as a city between Berlin's edge and Vienna's grace, with a strong specialty coffee and food scene.

Both days fall on a Monday and a Tuesday, so it's worth planning time off early. Brno is roughly 2.5 hours from Prague by train or bus.
