Paul Rudd Is in Prague Shooting a Spy Thriller

The actor joins an all-star cast including Paul Giamatti, Jeff Daniels, and Guy Pearce, in Prague to film “The Catcher Was a Spy”

Be on the look out for American actors Paul Rudd, Jeff Daniels, and Paul Giamatti, as well as Australian favorite Guy Pearce hanging out in the Czech capital this month.

The film stars began shooting principal photography on the Cold War era drama “The Catcher Was a Spy,” directed by Ben Lewin, on Febraury 13, according to a local production company’s Facebook page.

The film, based on a true story, centers on professional baseball player Moe Berg who doubled as a top-secret agent for the OSS (a forerunner of the CIA), helping the U.S. win the atomic-bomb race against Germany.

According to Variety, the film will focus on Berg’s infiltration of the inner circle of a lead scientist for the Nazi atomic program. It is based on a 1994 biography by Nicholas Dawidoff.

Czech location shooting will continue until March 23, says FlimNewEurope.com, and while the Czech Film Commission has yet to list specific filming locations, it confirms that Prague and the Czech Republic will stand in for Washington, New York, Tokyo, Rome, Italy, the Swiss Alps, and Zurich.

PageSix recently reported that Rudd sent a video message from Prague to New York where he was forced to miss his annual all-star celebrity bowling tournament for the first time ever.

An unrelated Czech connection: Giamatti may loan his voice to a feature adaptation of Bohumil Hrabal’s Too Loud a Solitude with live action puppets and animated sequences, currently in the works.

“The Catcher Was a Spy,” is set to see a 2018 release date.
