Electricity and gas prices in Czechia have fallen significantly over the past year, giving households some relief. But experts say the real savings come not just from lower prices, but from choosing the right type of contract.

A new report from Novinky.cz finds that fixing your energy price for a few years can protect families from sudden spikes and save thousands of crowns annually.

“For an ordinary family, it makes sense not to speculate and to insure the price for some time,” says Tomáš Vrňák, an analyst at Ušetřeno.cz told the publication. “A medium-term fixation of two to three years is most often worthwhile.”

Compared to last January, many suppliers’ offers have become cheaper, particularly for households using gas for cooking, water heating, and space heating.
