Employment and legal updates

New Labor Code changes

On June 1, sweeping changes to Czechia’s Labor Code will modernize employment regulations and enhance labor market adaptability. Key updates for expats include revised probationary and notice periods, the option for salary payments in foreign currency, and more flexible shift scheduling. Employees can now set their own working hours with a written employer agreement. Additionally, 14-year-olds will be allowed to work part-time during the summer holidays. Deadline for submitting tax returns

If you’re self-employed, you must submit your tax return and income and expense reports to your health insurance provider (typically VZP) and the Social Security Administration within one month of filing your return. These can be sent through your data box. Therefore, if you filed your tax return by the early May deadline, you have until June 2 at the latest to complete this step.

Transport and travel news

New RegioJet connections to Poland…

Effective June 1, Czech carrier RegioJet will launch regular bus connections from Ostrava to Katowice and Krakow airports in Poland, operating at approximately two-hour intervals. The service will feature new double-decker coaches with a premium 2+1 (two seats on one side of the aisle and one seat on the other) seating configuration. One-way fares will start at CZK 199.

…and daily journeys to Croatia

RegioJet has commenced ticket sales for its summer routes to Croatia, with services set to increase in frequency from June 16, marking the beginning of the high season. From this date, connections will operate daily, offering convenient travel to a range of popular coastal destinations including Split, Zadar, Šibenik, Primošten, and Trogir. Prior to June 16, services will run three times per week during the off-peak period. Ticket prices start at CZK 999.

New air routes

Starting in June 2025, new flight routes will connect Prague and Abu Dhabi, flown by the Etihad airline (four times a week from June 2), Prague to Toronto with Air Canada (three times a week from June 6), and from early June Pardubice Airport will get a new connection to Mallorca (Spain).

Prague transport disruption

Tram service near the Malostranská stops on Klárov Street (Prague 1) will be temporarily suspended until June 13 due to track reconstruction. Lines 2, 12, 15, 17, 18, 20, 22, 23, 42, 97, and 194 are affected. Tram 2 will be split into two separate routes, and tram 22 will work on two altered paths in the city center. For updated connections, passengers should check revised routes on the official DPP website, especially around Letenská street and Edvard Beneš Embankment.

Education and children

International Children’s Day

Czechia observes this worldwide celebration on the first day of June—in 2025, this conveniently falls on a Sunday, ideal for families. Many venues in the capital (and nationwide) provide discounts or special events to celebrate children on this day. Prague Zoo offers kids under 15 tickets for a symbolic price of just CZK 1, and Karlínské náměstí will have a bouncy castle and theatrical performances all afternoon. Find a roundup of events at Prague City Tourism.

Exam retakes

Secondary school applicants who didn't pass the initial admissions round will take second-round exams between June 9 and June 12, and results will be published on June 24 (on the DiPSy, digitální přihlašovací, system).

School’s out

Students receive their end-of-the-year report cards, and school officially finishes on Friday, June 27. From June 30, schools are closed at the end of the academic year. Pupils may have exam retakes over the summer. See our guide to what kids can get up to this summer.

seasonal and cultural events

Festival season gets into swing

June sees a host of music festivals and open-air events, including Rock For People (June 11-15), Kontakt Fest (June 14) and Metronome Prague (June 19 to 21).

Explore museums by night

Prague’s Museum Night will take place on Saturday, June 14. The event offers free evening and night access to almost 60 museums and galleries until midnight. Well-known Prague buildings like the Rudolfinum, Powder Tower, and Petřín Lookout Tower all feature.

Summer officially begins

The summer solstice—the day’s longest year on June 21—is celebrated with traditional events in Czechia. On June 20, the Wallachian Museum in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm offers a mystical Midsummer Eve with rituals and bonfires.
