FESTIVAL FARMA 2007
Between cultures / between the theatre and another genre

May 27 – 31

Švandovo theatre, Preslova 9 premises and the surroundings of Prague 5

After six years of its existence and performances on several continents, the international theatre studio Farm in the Cave brings into Prague the works of unique world artists, whose expression borders on theatre and other genre.

The festival is held under the auspices of Mr. Václav Havel, Pavel Bém and Eugenio Barba.

The audience will see the Czech premiére of Dulsori from South Korea. This group of phenomenal synchronized drumming draws from the culture of farmers from Korean countryside, whose instruments imitated the sounds of nature.

Odin Teatret from Denmark. The legend of world theatre – Eugenio Barba´s scandinavian theatre laboratory will introduce its performance in the Czech Republic for the very first time. „Itsi Bitsi“ is a confession of the actor-genius Iben Nagel Rasmussen.

Javier Cura from Argentine – a multidisciplinary artist drawing from tango, kung-fu, contact improvisation, drama and visual arts will perform together with Leilani Weiss, a dancer from Chile, in the European premiére.

„To sing to remember“ by Mariana Sadovska from Ukraine/Germany will have its world premiére here. This vocal performance and concert bordering on both contemporary music and mythic singing „joik“ was inspired by the journey of this singer and several musicians from Germany and Sweden to Lapland. (Sadovska is already known here thanks to the successful concert Voices of the East and thanks to her nomination for Alfred Radok Award in 2005.)

The world premiére of a performance by ex-members of DV8 Physical Theater, Jordi Cortés and Charlotta Öfverholm from Sweden, entitled „Codes of Life / The Last Forecast“ is reflecting the totalitarian remains in the Eastern countries and was inspired by Charlotta Öfverholm´s stay in the Czech Republic. This dancer and choreographer, known to the Czech audience due to her activities at Archa theatre and her nomination for Thalia Award in 2004, will also introduce her solo „Lynn“ in the Czech premiére.

The „home“ ensemble Farm in the Cave will introduce its contemporary repertoir with surprises in the form of a renewed premiére of the numerously awarded performance „Sclavi / The Song of an Emigrant“ with the participation of the Korean actor Jun Wan Kim. Then, the performance „Waiting room“ and the festive „Work Demo“ – there, next to the world premiéres of the miniatures by the actresses Hana Varadzinová and Eliška Vavříková, the audience will see other international guest artists from Farma 2007 festival.

Next to the dynamic expression crossing over the genres, the artists invited to the festival have something in common: they are looking for inspiration in specific cultural contexts, and reworking them into the stories of our contemporaries. All this through their unique craft and energizing communication with the audience – here and now.

The dramaturgy of the festival will introduce the work of these artists not only through master class workshops, but also through premiéres of the documentary films about the origins of the individual projects (directed by Slovak artists). The activities of the individual festival days will be connected as to the theme: from the morning workshops through the film screenings to the two evening performances.

The films will be commented upon by the world-famous professor Leszek Kolankiewicz´s brief „on the spot“ lectures. He is the director of the Institute for Polish Culture at Warsaw University and at present one of the leading personalities reflecting on theatre and culture in Europe.

The festival is held within the project „Search for Message“, supported by European Union grant Culture 2000.
