Czech parents spent an average of 3.4 hours a day homeschooling their children during lockdown

Prague, May 4 (CTK) – Czech parents spend 3.4 hours a day homeschooling their children and it seems to most of them that schools provide education sufficiently and cope with communication with them and the students well, according to a survey that NMS Market Research conducted in April.

Nearly one third of parents spend less than two hours a day with homeschooling their children, 43 percent spend from two to four hours a day, and one fifth from four to six hours.

The survey also showed that 51 percent of Czechs share the view that elementary schools deal with the present situation very well or well.

Parents would welcome if their school used online testing and online conferences more often and if it minimized the burden that they had to carry. Many of them would also appreciate if there were questionnaires about the needs of students and their parents.

According to the survey, more than one third of schools use online tests and one in ten schools uses questionnaires.

Most schools (71 percent) assign homework via e-mail, 56 percent of them put homework to some online platform, 46 percent have work at home based on text books.

Two thirds of parents use some online educational instruments and almost all of them consider them useful. Most of them reject the view that these instruments could replace attending school.

The Czech Statistical Office recently pointed out that 3.3 percent of children in the country who are aged from six to 15 do not have the Internet connection at home. Further 5 percent of children have the Internet at home, but do not have a computer or tablet and so they can be online only on their phone.

Households often do not have printers or scanners that are necessary for giving homework to students or sending it back to teachers.
