Pavel interview with army blocked by Defence Min.

An interview with President Petr Pavel as part of the Czech Army's Camouflage (Kamufláž) podcast, hosted by a spokesperson for the General Staff, was banned from being broadcast by the Ministry of Defense, Aktuálně.cz reported. "They didn't allow us to do it," a soldier told the outlet, an incident symbolic of the tense relations between the government and the President, himself a former general.

Babiš invites Hungary's Péter Magyar to Czechia

Prime Minister Andrej Babiš has invited the winner of yesterday's Hungarian general election Péter Magyar to the Czech Republic, the PM said on Monday. A close ally of defeated Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Babiš said he was looking forward to cooperate with the next Hungarian Premier, noting that "there are great hopes and expectations" surrounding Magyar's victory and welcoming his emphasis on the Visegrad Group.

Prague to buy Vinohrady National House from state

The Prague municipality will buy the National House in Vinohrady, on Náměstí Míru, from the Czech state, city councilors approved today, and will keep the building's current purpose as a venue for balls, proms and other social events. The city administration also intends to purchase the Veleslavín Chateau for CZK 210 million and entrust the castle grounds to the Prague 6 district.

Reduced speed to be introduced in Žižkov tunnel

Local city councilors plan on reducing the maximum speed allowed in the tunnel connecting Žižkov and Karlín to 10 km/h, Seznam Zpravy reports. The move comes amid a wider debate about the lack of safety in the 300-meter-long tunnel following an accident last month. Other measures under discussion include introducing separate lanes for cyclists and pedestrians and tasking Czech traffic police to carry out inspections.

Famed Czech trumpeter dies aged 90

Renowned Czech trumpeter, conductor and bandleader Václav Hybš has died at the age of 90. A well-known and regular face on 1980s Czechoslovak television, Hybš collaborated and performed with many leading artists of Czechia's pop music scene, including Karel Gott and Waldemar Matuška, throughout a prolific decades-long career during which he recorded dozens of albums and over a thousand singles.
