Buskers to Flood the Streets of Prague this Week

Hundreds of musicians and artists will perform this week in protest of the strict new regulations on street acts

The first edition of a Praha Žije Hudbou (Prague Music Lives) kicks off later this week with some 200 professional and amateur musicians performing in protest of a recent bill passed in March regulating busking and other street art.

Official stages will be set up around Prague at Jiřího z Poděbrad, Karlovo Namesti, Jungmannovo Namesti and Malostranske Namesti while so-called busker points will appear in the streets throughout Prague.

The festival opens on Thursday, May 12, at 19:00 at the National Theatre Piazzetta with a flashomb performance by the ensemble Run Operun.

Following the day-long festival on Friday May 13, the festivities will move into Prague clubs and bars, where the official after-party of the festival will take place.

Prominent figures on the bill include acts such as Lenka Dusilová, Prago Union, Klára Výtisková, Emma Smetana, Xavier Baumaxa, Thom Artway, Floex, and Laco Déczi.
