🕺Get down on International Dance Day

International Dance Day 2025 celebrations, organized by Art 4 People, will take place on Tuesday, April 29, at Střelecký Island in Prague. Recognized by UNESCO, International Dance Day is observed annually to honor the art of dance. This year's program includes open-air performances featuring professional and amateur dancers, dance workshops, public dance halls, and a nationwide flashmob choreographed by renowned dancers. The event is open to dance enthusiasts and the general public.

🎷 Groove on International Jazz Day

The Mladí ladí jazz Open Air 2025 will take place on April 30, from 3:30 p.m. at Karlovo náměstí in Prague. As part of International Jazz Day under the auspices of UNESCO, the event will feature performances by Undo Redo, Kosmonauci (Poland), Bassolino (Italy), and 7krát3 & LIVE BAND. Admission is voluntary. This event is part of the Europe Jazz Network.

🧙🏻‍♀️ Burn some witches

In Czechia, Čarodějnice (Witches’ or Walpurgis Night) is an ancient pagan tradition that evolved into a popular folk custom. Observed on the night of April 30, it involves springtime celebrations focused on themes of fertility, renewal, and purification through fire rituals. Several activities will abound around Prague, such as the burning of an effigy in Ladronka Park (Prague 6), offering theater, workshops, concerts, and family entertainment. It is also free of charge.

📅 Welcome May with a public holiday

Thursday, May 1, has several notable observances. First, it is a public holiday in Czechia (Labor Day), where most people will get the day off work. Major supermarkets and stores stay open, though. The day celebrates not only workers but also love; tradition says that couples are supposed to kiss under a blossoming cherry tree. The Liechtenstein Palace, which was chosen as the residence of many Bohemian nobles, will be open to the public for tours. In Prague, couples often gather near the Karel Hynek Mácha statue at Prague's Petřín Hill.

🏃 Brace for the Prague marathon

On the morning of Sunday, May 4, around 8,000 runners will take part in the 30th edition of the Prague International Marathon. Be aware of heavy public-transport and traffic disruption, which start from the early hours of May 4 and end around the early afternoon. The race starts at Old Town Square, and runs through Celetná, Na Příkopě, and Národní streets, all of which will be closed to motor traffic. Participants will also run on Masarykovo nábřeží and Sematnovo nábřeží parallel to the Vltava River. Members of the public are welcome to watch.
