‼️Prague tram service outages

The weekend saw two tram suspensions go into effect in Prague. Temporary interruption of tram service from Malostranská-Chotkovy sady will last until March 1, disrupting lines 2, 6, 12, 18, 20, 22, 23, and 97. (This impacts travel to Prague Castle). In addition, tram service between Knížecí-Smíchovské nádraží (lines 2, 6, 12, 18, 20, 22, 23, 97) is also suspended until Feb. 17. See more at the official Prague Transport DPP website.

While a shoulder blade that allegedly belonged to St. Valentine resides in a basilica in Prague, the modern holiday has only recently become popular in the Czech lands. Today, dinners and flowers, together with sweets, are among the most popular Valentine's gifts Czechs, while one in four surveyed say they expect Valentine's expenses to exceed CZK 3,000. Prague districts 1 through 5 have their school spring holidays during this week. Additional distrcits including Prague 11, Prague 12, Prague 13, Prague 16, Kunratice, Libuš, Lipence, Lochkov, Řeporyje, Slivenec, Šeberov, Prague-Újezd, Prague-Velká Chuchle, Zbraslav, and Prague-Zličín also have their school holidays fall on this week. According to Czech media, train travel to the mountains is among the most popular activities for 2025 spring break (prázdniny); here's a list of family-friendly activities for last-minute inspiration.

🍫 Watch out for shrinking chocolate

Just in time for V-Day, chocolate maker Milka is reportedly reducing its standard bar size from 100 to 90 grams, citing high cocoa and energy costs. Competitor Nestlé is also considering downsizing its products. Known as "smrskflation," the practice of shrinking packaging while maintaining prices has affected chocolates, crisps, and household items. Consumer advocates warn that companies rarely inform customers, making price increases less noticeable.

🚕 Try a new ride-hailing service that's just for women

Ride-hailing company Bolt has introduced "Women for Women" in Prague, allowing women passengers to request rides from women drivers. The initiative aims to enhance safety, reduce harassment risks, and encourage more women to join the industry. Features include ID verification, route sharing, and an in-app emergency button. Advocacy groups and drivers have welcomed the move, citing increased comfort and security, especially for nighttime travel.
