Trams will stop running between Prague’s Nákladové nádraží Žižkov and Ohrada from Sunday, Oct. 11, through Friday, Dec. 18, as crews modernize the tracks and prepare a connection to the new tram line toward Jarov.

The closure affects both directions and will change several routes serving Žižkov. Replacement buses will operate during the day and overnight, while temporary tram lines will maintain connections to Spojovací.

Prague’s public transport operator, DPP, has published details of the closure and replacement stops. Passengers should check their route before traveling, particularly if they normally use tram 9 to reach stops beyond Nákladové nádraží Žižkov.

Replacement buses bridge the closed section

The daytime replacement bus X9 will run between Nákladové nádraží Žižkov and Vozovna Žižkov via Biskupcova and Ohrada. Overnight, X95 will follow the same route.

A second night bus, X98, will connect Vozovna Žižkov with Olšanské hřbitovy, traveling through Ohrada, Biskupcova, Nákladové nádraží Žižkov and Želivského.

Tram lines 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 95 and 98 will follow altered routes. Lines 16 and 34 will be temporarily suspended.

Bus routes 133, 908 and 909 are also affected, with their Biskupcova stops relocated during the works. Replacement buses will use designated temporary stops in several locations, so passengers should follow the signs rather than assume they depart from the usual tram platforms.

Temporary trams keep Spojovací connected

DPP will introduce two daytime tram routes to serve the eastern end of the affected area:

  • Line 30: Sídliště Ďáblice–Kobylisy–Bulovka–Palmovka–Ohrada–Spojovací.
  • Line 37: Lehovec–Hloubětín–Nádraží Libeň–Palmovka–Ohrada–Spojovací.

At night, temporary line 90 will run from Vozovna Kobylisy through Kobylisy, Bulovka, Palmovka and Ohrada to Spojovací.

The Žižkov works overlap with another closure between Na Knížecí and Smíchovské nádraží, which began Oct. 3 and is scheduled to continue through Oct. 18. That disruption concerns the final stage of railway bridge reconstruction above Nádražní Street, with replacement buses and temporary tram routes also operating.

For journeys through Žižkov, allow extra time for transfers and check the replacement stop locations in DPP’s notice. Biskupcova arrangements will change again on Nov. 9, so the stop used at the start of the closure may differ later in the works.
