What are Europe’s best cities to travel to for a day or weekend trip?

Since 2009, the Brussels-based travel and tourism website European Best Destinations has run an annual user poll to select the top travel destinations among a stable of over 350+ cities.

Last year, France’s Bordeaux was named the best European Travel Destination, as selected by “hundreds of thousands of internet users.” Prague was not listed among the top 15.

Here’s the 2015 list:

1.Bordeaux
2.Lisbon
3.Athens
4.Valletta (Malta)
5.Riga
6.Zagreb
7.Ljubljana
8.Innsbruck
9.Milan
10.Brussels
11.Vienna
12.Rome
13.Barcelona
14.Instanbul
15.Madrid

This year, however, Prague has made the cut of twenty cities eligible for the title of Best European Destination. Curiously, some of last year’s cities, including Bordeaux, have been left off the list of eligible cities for 2016.

Until February 10, you can vote for one of the following cities: Amsterdam, Athens, Azores, Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Edinburgh, Kotor, London, Madrid, Milan, Nantes, Nicosia, Novi Sad, Paris, Plovdiv, Prague, Rome, Vienna, or Zadar.

The website also runs polls in other categories of Europe’s Best, including Best Beaches, Best National Parks, and more.

Despite USA Today readers recently naming Prague the World’s Best Holiday Destination, the city’s Christmas Market was not listed in the European Best Destination poll for Best Christmas Market, which was won by Zagreb.
