Czech law change: Tenants to pay more for repairs from January

A change that factors in total inflation since 2015 transforms how much renters need to pay for maintenance, replacement, and repair.

If you rent in Czechia, get ready for a noticeable uptick in your repair bills. From January 2026, tenants will be expected to cover a much larger slice of apartment maintenance costs as the government raises the thresholds for what counts as a “minor repair.” 

After a decade without changes, the update reflects an entire decade of inflation, and may hit your wallet very hard.
