Popular American author Robert Fulghum will be touring the Czech Republic extensively in October, visiting over two dozen cities and towns including Prague.

His appearance in Prague, at Divadlo Na Fidlovačce, comes near the end of his tour on October 27. The tour begins in Slaný on October 3 and wraps up in Ostrava on October 29.

He will be presenting his new novel Nine Dragons And A Sheep, the second part of his ‘The Mender of Destinies’ trilogy. So far, the novel and its predecessor are only available in Czech, but most of his other writing is in English.

Two actors will present a dramatic selection from the new novel and he will tell stories, sign books, and meet and greet fans.

“For me, that’s the best part of the trip – ‘generally re-engaging with Czechs.’ Something I’ve been doing for 30 years now – and hope to continue because there is a new book of essays/stories coming in the fall of 2020, and the last volume of ‘The Mender’ the fall after that,” he writes on his blog.

Fulghum explained his connection to Czechs: “I answer with what an old lady told me at a book signing. It’s a matter of reincarnation – I was a Czech in a previous life or I am destined to be a Czech in the next life. She was certain. So that’s that. Now you know.”

He offered an alternative explanatiohn. “Or it might be that it has been discovered that the most famous Czech of all, Jara Cimrman, went to America, and had a brief love affair with my great-grandmother a long time ago. So you might say that I am the illegitimate great-grand-son of Jara Cimrman, which is about as Czech as I’ll ever get,” he added. Cimrman is a popular fictional character that started on the radio and has also been in plays.

While in the Czech
Republic, he plans to collect material for new stories and essays.
